Acceptable Use Policy

This policy forms an integral part of the MapFirms End User License Agreement and applies to every use of the MapFirms desktop program, the MapFirms Mobile app and the related online services.

1. Purpose

MapFirms helps businesses find other businesses and manage their own customer relationships. We expect you to use the program honestly, in moderation and in compliance with the laws of your own country and of the countries where the people you contact are located. Complying with this policy is your responsibility.

2. Contact rules

  • Do not send unsolicited commercial messages (e-mail, SMS, WhatsApp or other instant messages) or make commercial calls without a legal basis. Where the law requires prior consent (for example in Germany, Italy and Spain, even for e-mails to businesses), obtain consent first.
  • For recipients in Türkiye, register with the Message Management System (İYS); before sending, record the recipient's address in İYS and check its rejection record there. Without prior consent, messages may be sent only to merchants and tradespeople (tacir and esnaf); do not write again without consent to merchants or tradespeople who have rejected your messages. Do not ask for consent by sending the recipient a commercial electronic message.
  • Honour rejections and "do not contact me" requests: act on them within the statutory period (for example three business days in Türkiye and ten business days under CAN-SPAM in the United States) and keep your own do-not-contact list. Respect official opt-out registers (for example İYS, TPS and CTPS in the United Kingdom, and the National Do Not Call Registry in the United States).
  • State clearly who you are in every message and call; do not use misleading sender details or subject lines; and offer an easy, free way to opt out.
  • Do not use MapFirms data with bulk or automated messaging tools, automatic dialling systems (auto-dialers) or prerecorded voice calls.
  • Follow the rules of communication platforms such as WhatsApp. WhatsApp, for example, prohibits bulk and automated messaging and allows business accounts to message people only with their permission.
  • Do not use MapFirms to market to consumers (people who are not acting for commercial or professional purposes).

3. Data collection rules

  • Collect only business information that has been published openly. Do not try to use the program to access pages that require a login or membership, or content behind a paywall.
  • Do not solve or bypass security checks such as CAPTCHAs or use services to have them solved, and do not try to get around access blocks or rate limits, for example by changing IP addresses, proxies or browser identities. Use the network proxy setting only for your own network needs (for example a company network without direct internet access), never to get around a block. MapFirms does not solve or bypass such checks and does not rotate IP addresses, proxies or browser identities: it uses one fixed browser identity and, if you set one, a single network proxy. When a source shows a verification page or limits access, MapFirms backs off without changing its identity: depending on the source, it waits or stops querying that source, and map services or business directories that keep blocking access are paused for several hours. Because not every check can be recognised, results from a source may also simply decrease. In that case, pause your searches on that source instead of trying to get around the check.
  • Comply with the source websites' terms of use and robots.txt rules, and do not overload websites.
  • The third-party map services that you can additionally choose during installation or in Settings are optional and off by default. If you choose them, data from these services is subject to those services' own terms of use.
  • Do not collect special categories of personal data (for example health, religion, political opinions, ethnic origin, biometric data, criminal convictions) or data about children.
  • Do not use MapFirms, or combine it with other tools, to collect data from social networks that prohibit automated collection (for example Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X, TikTok). MapFirms does not collect data from these networks. It records the social media links that a company publishes on its own website; only if you turn on the optional profile checks does it query the public interfaces of Bluesky, Mastodon servers, GitHub and YouTube about those links and store the public profile information they return. The optional Bluesky search only suggests profiles that match the company name; a suggested profile is added to the company only if you confirm it.
  • Do not use MapFirms to look up people by name or phone number or to build profiles of individuals.

4. Sharing and selling data

  • Do not sell, rent, publish or give to others any lists containing personal data that you collected with MapFirms.
  • Do not use MapFirms to operate a data brokerage, a directory service or a list-selling business.
  • You may use the data within your own business, for your own business purposes and in compliance with the law.

5. Misuse of the software and services

  • Do not circumvent the license and account checks or the free-version limit, and do not share your account.
  • Do not attack or overload our servers, and do not try to access data you are not authorised to access.
  • Do not use MapFirms for harassment, fraud, impersonation or any other unlawful purpose.
  • Do not use MapFirms in a way that violates applicable sanctions or export control rules.

6. Violations and reporting

If this policy is violated, we may warn you, suspend your account or terminate the agreement in accordance with the End User License Agreement. Where required by law, we cooperate with the competent authorities. If you believe a MapFirms user has violated this policy, report it to destek@mapfirms.com; we review every report. Please note that we have no access to the data users keep on their own computers or to the messages they send.
